Cafe Sketching at La Chambre Jaune Cafe

Our third class had a guest artist, Margaret Hoybach, from Charleston, SC. We visited her last summer in Provence, and I’ll be back there to visit her again in May. We met at La Chambre Jaune Cafe (my house!)  Arlene even made a title page commemorating the day with a sketch of a yellow fireplug down the street. Maggie began by showing some of her paintings and explaining different ways to fill a sketchbook. We then moved into a dark room where Maggie took us on a bus ride through Provence (showed slides). Just a quick sketch – time for the bus driver to stop a few minutes and have a smoke – and notations of color and value. Paint added later.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Then it was time to paint and eat. Quiche, naturally.Image Bon apetit!

  1. Thanks for the 2 emails Mary Ann. Looks like
fun activities and hope future sketching will
be just as great. Paul Hudgins
