The last days in this beautiful place were frantic trying to paint and remember everything. Early mornings were great for the light, and several days found us at the patisserie in Roussillon at 7:30 and painting by 8:00.
Before I went to the airport to come home, our group went to the town of Martigues, near Marseille. It is called “La Petite Venise” because of all the canals and colorful boats and buildings. It would have been a gorgeous place to paint if we hadn’t had to contend with the mistral and rain. We did find a charming cafe that looked out on the canal so we did some sketches and ate “marmite de la mer,” a fish soup similar to bouillabaisse.
Provence was magical as always, and painting at all hours in our little blue and yellow gite was special.
Thank you all for your kind comments. Stay tuned for a trip to England and the British Open in July, and I hope to paint enough to finish my third Blue Vase book. But for now, after an exhausting but completely satisfying long day and the prospect of a very early flight back to the US in the morning….. room service! Bon nuit!
